DOOMSDAY CLOCK # 6 - Autor Geoff Johns im "Newsweek" Interview über Rorschach, Black Adam, die "Superman Theorie" und Asyl für Super-Helden & -Schurken

 ...vor kurzem interviewte das amerikanische Nachrichtenmagazin "Newsweek" (erneut) Geoff Johns zu seiner "Doomsday Clock" - Maxi-Serie, die eine direkte Fortsetzung der "Watchmen" und des DC Event "Rebirth" darstellt.


Im soeben erschienenen "Doomsday Clock" # 6  stehen  "Mime", "Marionette" und der "Joker" im Mittelpunkt der Handlung (inklusiver Gast-Auftritte von Teilen Batman's Schurken-Galerie).

“It’s really the Superman Theory and what’s going on in the world from the point of view of the supervillains in the DC universe,” erläutert Johns im Gespräch. Johns deutet aber auch an, das die wahren Hintergründe bzw. Hintermänner der sogenannten "Superman Theory" noch benannt werden müssen... Und einige der Superschurken ernsthaft die Möglichkeit diskutieren, "Black Adam's" Asyl-Angebot anzunehmen (Zuflucht vor Verfolgung in "Black Adam's" Heimat Khandaq zu finden).

“When Black Adam, one of the most powerful metahumans on the planet, says, “You want refuge, you want a fresh start? If you are like a low level villian in this crazy world, what do you do? What are your options?”

Spätestens mit Ausgabe 6 wechselt die Serie ihre Sichtweise, die bisher vor allem auf die "üblichen Verdächtigen" (aus der Welt der "Watchmen" und dem regulären DC Universum), wie etwa "Rorschach", "Batman", "Adrian Veidt" oder "Superman" gerichtet war.

Im "Newsweek" Interview verweist Johns daher auch nochmals auf eine Sequenz in "Doomsday Clock" # 5, in der angedeutet wird, was die Leser noch erwarten wird (z.B. im TV-Nachrichten-Beitrag über die klassische "Firestorm"-Gegnerin "Killer Frost").

“The Superman Theory is supposed to be something that is creating this world tension, reflecting some of how misinformation can actually get very, very dangerous in our world, and in this case, even more so. There is an element of truth to it and that truth is going to be uncovered, and who is behind it and why and what it was designed to do and what’s happening, will play a major part in the story.”

The Superman Theory behauptet, das die "Metahumans" Community (ob Helden oder Schurken) von der Regierung "gesteuert" bzw. geplant wurden, um sie beizeiten einsetzen zu können. ...dies könnte eine mögliche Erklärung dafür sein, warum im DC Universe rund  97%  aller mit Superkräften ausgestatteten Humanoiden Einwohner der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika sind.

“Why is that?” fragt Autor Geoff Johns. “Is there an in-story reason for that? And that's how the conspiracy grew up.”


Warum diese These den Namen des Stählernen im Titel führt wird innerhalb von "Doomsday Clock" noch geklärt werden!

“It's really important the Superman Theory is named after Superman, and Lois points out that’s why she suspects Lex would paint Superman's name with this,” so Johns weiter.

“There is big paranoia over it, and the only person you can rely on is Superman. The only person the world will rely on is Superman. Lois and Clark are now busy investigating the Superman Theory, and they are starting to uncover that, “Oh my god, there is truth to it.” How big is it?”

Doomsday Clock # 7 (variant) im September

Johns verweist daher darauf, das die Serie "Doomsday Clock" zeitlich etwa ein Jahr in der Zukunft (bzw. ein Jahr nach den derzeit erscheinenden anderen DCU Serien) angesiedelt ist!

“It’s a year from now, the story is set slightly future in the DC Universe from now. The reality is some people read the issue and they don’t go into the back, and I hope they read the backmatter. It’s more grounded and inward and for DC fans, if they look closely they will find new ideas and characters that they are going to see come to light.”
