SDCC 2018: AQUAMAN - first trailer

  
Ebenso wie der teaser-Trailer für "SHAZAM!" (Captain Marvel) erhielt auch der erste Werbe-Trailer für Regisseur James Wan’s "Aquaman" großen Applaus vom Publikum der "San Diego Comic Con".

"Aquaman" vermischt die Origin Story des "Königs von Atlantis" mit der Geschichte eines großen, zu eskalieren drohenden Konflikts zwischen den Untersee- und Land- Bewohnern.

Beeindruckend wirken bereits im Trailer die zahlreichen Unterwasser-Aufnahmen (inklusive via CGI erstellter Kreaturen).

SDCC 2018: SHAZAM! - Teaser Trailer, featuring the original "Captain Marvel" !

Auf der "San Diego Comic Con" präsentierten Warner Bros. endlich, das das DC Universe (zumindest das der Kinofilme der vergangenen Jahre) auch eine heitere Seite hat.


Die Erst-Präsentation des "Shazam!" - teaser trailers wirkt auf den Betrachter, als hätte man Tom Hanks' "Big" mit dem Superhelden-Genre gemixt. Mit Zachary Levi in der Rolle des (erwachsenen) Superhelden "Captain Marvel".

Captain Marvels Alter Ego, der Waisenjunge "Billy Batson", wird von Asher Angel dargestellt. Wie Superhelden-Fans bekannt sein dürfte, vermag sich Billy in den gewaltigen "Captain Marvel" zu verwandeln indem er den Namen des Zauberers laut ausspricht, der ihm diese Kräfte einst verlieh: "SHAZAM!"


Regisseur David F. Sandberg, Levi und weitere Mitglieder der Cast präsentierten auf der "SDCC 2018" diesen ersten Trailer dem begeisterten Publikum.
 
“This is complete wish fulfillment. This is 14 year old me that got to put on a cape and fly,”  erzählte Levi den Fans. “This whole movie is about wish fulfillment.”

Die Einführung von "Captain Marvel" / "Shazam!" in das DC Movie Universe, bedeutet für Fans aber auch die evtl. Klärung einer alten Streit-Frage: Levi fragte nämlich, wer wohl in einem Kampf, der Mächtigere der beiden sein würde, "Captain Marvel" (nickname: "the big red cheese") oder aber "Superman" (nickname: "smallville")...


(In den Comics der vergangenen Jahrzehnte gab es ja bereits mehrere solcher "Duelle" der Beiden (z.B. in  "Superman" # 276, "Justice League Of America" # 135, "Power Of Shazam!" # 46  u.v.a.); ebenso auch in einer Episode der animated "Justice League Unlimited" Serie.)

"Shazam! " ist von Warner Bros. als quasi Kontrastprogramm angelegt zu den (vielen Fans) zu düster geratenen Filmen wie etwa "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" oder "Suicide Squad".

"Shazam!" startet im April 2019 in den Kinos; DC flankiert den Start mit Reprint-Collections klassischer "Captain Marvel" Stories (allerdings - "Dank" des Rechtsstreit mit Marvel - alle unter dem Obertitel "Shazam!"). Der echte Captain Marvel darf auch über 75 Jahre nach seinem Erstauftritt in den Comics bei DC nicht (mehr) mit seinem eigenen Namen auf dem Cover erscheinen...

DC Presented with Official Title Certificate Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, 80 Years After the First Issue was Released GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, the global authority on record-breaking achievements, today honored DC’s ACTION COMICS with the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Longest-running superhero comic book series. 

DC Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, who also serves as Chief Creative Content Officer, were presented with the certificate by a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator at a morning ceremony prior to the opening of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. 

 

Widely acknowledged as the book that launched the entire superhero genre and the title that introduced Superman to the world, ACTION COMICS first issue was published in 1938. 

On April 18, 2018, exactly 80 years later, DC published a landmark 80-page issue #1000, featuring an all-star lineup of talent including Dan Jurgens, Jim Lee, Marv Wolfman, Louise Simonson and Tom King. ACTION COMCS #1000 also featured the debut of new DC writer and fan-favorite Brian Michael Bendis, in a story with art by Lee.

With more than 500,000 copies in print, ACTION COMICS #1000 is on its way to becoming one of the most successful comic books sold in 2018. A favorite in bookshops and comic book stores worldwide, ACTION COMICS also introduced fans to other elements of Superman’s mythos such as Lois Lane, arch villains Lex Luthor, Brainiac and the Toyman, in addition to the Bottle City of Kandor and the Fortress of Solitude.

As part of the celebration of ACTION COMICS #1000, April also saw the release of a special hardcover book, ACTION COMICS: 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN. Curated by former DC President Paul Levitz, the 384-page commemorative book revisits stories from eight decades of ACTION COMICS, featuring the debuts of not just the Man of Tomorrow and other iconic stories, but the first appearances of Supergirl, Brainiac and the Fortress of Solitude, plus a foreword by Laura Siegel Larson, daughter of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel. 

 
The book also includes a series of essays and tributes by Levitz and other literary personalities, in addition to a never-before-published story written by Jerry Siegel with art from the Joe Shuster Studio.

Skottie Young's "I hate Fairyland" mit aktueller # 20 eingestellt!

Skottie Young's Heft-Serie "I Hate Fairyland" (Variant-Cover-Ausgaben gern auch unter dem abgewandelten Titel "I fuck Fairyland") endete überraschenderweise mit der gerade erst ausgelieferten # 20 !

"That’s right, I just finished inking the last panel on the last page of I Hate Fairyland #20. What I’ve know for a while, but you just found out, was that’s the last page of the series, at least for now," erklärt Young seinen Lesern im aktuellen Heftchen.

"I know, some of you are probably cursing my name right now while some of you are saying, 'It’s about time.' Either way, I knew it was time for me to bring Gert’s story to an end for the time being."

Young schreibt von "einem neuen Projekt, das er schreiben und zeichnen wird", und von seiner Verpflichtung gegenüber Marvel (Disney), an deren "Deadpool" zu arbeiten, der jüngst angekündigten "Bully Wars" Serie, die bei Image Comics erscheinen wird und anderen (ungenannten) Projekten. Aus Zeitmangel könne er "I hate Fairyland" künftig nicht mehr forführen...

# 20 ("regular")

  "So I made the choice to bring I Hate Fairyland to the ending I always saw for Gert. This would allow me to spend the time needed developing my next creator owned, written and drawn book," so Young weiter.  

"And in a crazy bit of timing, my family and I just moved from Illinois, where we’ve lived almost our whole lives, to Kansas City, Kansas."

Young meint, das er sich vorstellen könne, "irgendwann" wieder an "I Hate Fairyland" Geschichten zu arbeiten; dann aber nur noch in Form einzelner oneshots oder einer Mini-Serie. Allerdings habe er für die absehbare Zukunft noch nichts derartiges geplant!

"I hate Fairyland" # 20 (mit seinen diesmal recht zahlreichen Vartiant-Cover Motiven!) ist seit Mitte letzter Woche bei uns erhältlich. Der abschließende Sammelband ("I Hate Fairyland" Vol. 4: Sadly Never After) wird ab Ende August im Verkauf sein.
