HARVEY AWARDS 2009: Die Gewinner
Auf der diesjährigen "Baltimore Comicon" wurden auch wieder die begehrten "Harvey Awards" der Comic-Industrie verliehen. Nicht ganz so Prestige-trächtig wie die alljährlichen "Eisner Awards" (deren Verleihung stets den Höhepunkt der "San Diego Comic Con" darstellen), sind auch sie ein Gradmesser für Qualität und Exzellenz in der US-Comic-Branche.

"BUFFY Season 8" endet mit Heft 44
Lt. "Buffy"- Creator Joss Whedon wird die derzeit laufende "Buffy" -Heftchen-Serie ("Season 8") des Verlags Dark Horse Comics mit Heft # 44 beendet werden. Vorher jedoch werden alle Autoren ihre jeweils geplanten Geschichten fertig erzählen.

"Nach Heft 44 werden wir einige Monate pausieren, " so Whedon, "...um dann eine neue Serie "Buffy Season 9" zu starten.
...aber bevor es soweit ist (in über einem Jahr) erscheint zuvor (im Dezember 2009) ein von Joss Whedon höchstpersönlich geschriebener Oneshot "Buffy Season 8: Willow", in dem die Geheimnisse um ihre neuen Kräfte und Fähigkeiten enthüllt werden!

DCs 75. Geburtstag beginnt mit "Design"!
Die diversen Feierlichkeiten zu DC Comics 75. Geburtstag (im nächsten Jahr) starten bereits jetzt: Gemeinsam mit Amerikas Edel-Kaufhaus "Bloomingdale's" (vergleichbar in etwa mit dem "Harrods" in London oder dem "KaDeWe" in Berlin) wird DC unter anderem exklusive Designer- Bekleidung in DC- Optik anbieten; zu den Designern gehören Psycho Bunny, Jack Spade und John Varvatos. Neben den klassischen Logos der DC-Heroes wird auch exklusiv gefertigtes Artwork (z.B. von George Perez) benutzt. Billig werden die Klamotten nicht -es handelt sich um "Designer-Mode"-: Mehr Details hierzu hat die "New York Times".

Archie Andrews: Bisexueller Bigamist...?
Katastrophen-Alarm unter den "Archie"-Fans (von denen es in den USA ja weit mehr als in unseren Breitengraden gibt): Zuerst die Ankündigung "Archie Andrews" in Heft # 600 seiner Reihe zwangszuverehelichen... Nein, dann auch noch ausgerechnet mit der brünetten Gewitterziege Veronica.

...aber (Wunder über Wunder), die "Hochzeit" ist tatsächlich als 6-teiler konzipiert, und im kommenden Heft # 603 heiratet Archie die nette (blonde) Betty. Interessant am Rande: Bei Umfragen unter amerikanischen Archie-Fans stellte der Verlag erstaunt fest, das
die meißten Fans "ihren" Archie am ehesten mit BETTY verheiratet sehen wollen; weit abgeschlagen (und beide mit fast der gleichen Menge Stimmen) folgen Veronica UND Archie's Dauer-Kumpel seit 1940, "Jughead" (weil: Schwulen-Hochzeiten sollen ja bald wieder möglich sein in the good ol' USA), der sich bereits bei der ersten Hochzeit seines Kumpels Archie die Augen aus dem Kopf heulte... "Seufz" - Liebe Ist Doof.

BLACKEST NIGHT im Januar: "STARMAN" kehrt zurück?
Auf dem "Retailer Meeting" in Baltimore, gemeinsam von Vertrieb "Diamond" und mehreren Groß-Verlagen ausgerichtet, verkündete DC seine Planung für den Monat Januar 2010, in dem bekanntermaßen ja keine BLACKEST NIGHT Hefte (auch "spin off"-Titel!) und auch keine regulären DC-Serien die ein Crossover zu "BN" hätten, erscheinen werden!

Stattdessen darf sich der geneigte Fan von desaströsen Super-Crossovern auf 8 Oneshots freuen, die alle eine Art Forsetzungsheft einer DC-Serie sind, die bereits vor Jahren eingestellt wurde. So z.B....

...bleibt nur zu hoffen, das Robinsons "Nachschlag" zu seinem exzellenten STARMAN Epos (DER Superhelden-Comic der 90er Jahre; die Omnibus-Nachdrucke sind ein "must-read"!) mehr Spaß machen wird als sein enttäuschendes Geschreibsel in den "Superman"-Ausgaben der letzten Monate!

Autor Robinson betont im Interview, das in seiner "nachgereichten" #81 der Serie lediglich Nebenfiguren der Serie zu sehen sein werden. "Soweit es mich betrifft lebt Jack Knight (seit dem Ende der STARMAN Serie) glücklich in San Francisco und hat mit Superhelden nichts mehr am Hut".

BLACKEST NIGHT (inklusive aller "tie-in"- & Crossover-Titel), die Oneshots und selbstverständlich auch die exzellenten STARMAN OMNIBUS Editionen sind bei uns im UNFUG erhältlich. Zumindest beweist DC mit diesem offiziellen PR-Text aber eine Menge Humor. (Jetzt freu' ich mich -wieder- auf's nächste AMBUSH BUG-Heft!)

"Es ist offensichtlich ironisch gemeint... Sowas wurde noch nie gemacht und wir dachten, es wäre irgendwie hip, cool und ungewöhnlich", soll der Playboy-Vorstandschef in einem Interview verraten haben.

Die halbnackte Marge wird allerdings nur in den USA am Kiosk und in Geschäften den Playboy zieren, Abonnenten bekommen eine Ausgabe mit menschlichen Playmates. Allerdings dürften deren Brüste auch nicht viel echter sein als die von Marge Simpson...

Berlin erscheint mir wie ein Schüssel zum Verständnis des 20. Jahrhunderts“ hat der im mittleren Westen der USA lebende Zeichner Jason Lutes einmal gesagt, als er im Tagesspiegel-Interview gefragt wurde, wieso er bald ein Jahrzehnt seines Lebens dieser fernen Stadt im fernen Deutschland gewidmet hat. Wo sonst finde man so viele interessante Themen und Figuren in einer Epoche wie im Berlin der letzten 100 Jahre?

Es überfiel mich in einem Pariser Buchladen: das Auge des Tigers von Malaysia. Schwarz war der Umschlag, und heraus stach das von gleichfalls schwarzen Haaren umwehte weiße Gesicht von Sandokan...

...Und dann noch der Zeichner: Hugo Pratt, der sehr große Italiener, tot seit 1995. Doch das Seltsame ist: Ich hatte nie von einem Comic gehört, den Hugo Pratt nach der Vorlage von „Sandokan" gezeichnet haben soll...
