THR / The Hollywood Reporter hat eine ausführliche Analyse der neuesten MARVEL Verfilmung, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, die an diesem Wochenende in den USA startet.

Was "funktioniert" in dem Film... und was funktioniert nicht?

"... Captain America delivers comic-book action that should satisfy Captain America’s fans, old and new, while Chris Evans’ no-nonsense yet engaging portrayal of a man who doesn’t know how to back away from a fight may cause young women to swoon and young men to join a gym. Yet the film will leave others wondering, especially following the film’s long gestation and marketing build-up, “Is this all there is?”

For in terms of even recent films, Captain America lacks the deft touch, appealing character interaction and sophisticated storytelling skills of Marvel Comics’ X-Men: First Class. And let’s not even bother to compare this to Christopher Nolan’s Batman series...

Director Joe Johnston makes certain that amid all the retro-futuristic nonsense his nucleus of actors playing SSR heroes fits well together. Evans nicely underplays the role, giving a Gary Cooper-ish air to the young hero who just wants to do the right thing. Atwell is a perfect throwback to that era: Darkly gorgeous yet tough as nails, she would look just at home painted on a bomber fuselage as she is slugging a solider who gives her lip...

Oh yes, this film is yet another summer fantasy in 3D in certain theaters. For some sequences, the format works well enough but it’s hardly worth the extra expenditure. This gimmick is truly running out of steam."

Normalerweise mögen wir das nicht so, wenn Kunden ungefragt Aufkleber von präsentierten Comics entfernen, in diesem Fall war das allerdings ein Augenöffner:


Traut der Verlag sich plötzlich selbst nicht mehr? Amazon traut sich jedenfalls nicht das Cover zu diesem Titel zu präsentieren. Und die ersten Treffer bei Googles Bildersuche zeigen, dass dieser Aufkleber bewusst von Casterman dort plaziert wurde:

DC hat (endlich) mehr Hintergrund-Information zum Inhalt von Grant Morrison's ACTION COMICS veröffentlicht. "Action" wird auf absehbare Zeit die "Jugend-Abenteuer" Clark Kents schildern, auf dem Weg zum SUPERMAN. "Action Comics" verspricht schon jetzt der mit Abstand erfolgreichste aller Neustart-Titel von DC zu werden; hier der komplette Presse-Informations-Text, der vor wenigen Stunden auf DCs hauseigenem Blog THE SOURCE veröffentlicht wurde (gemeinsam mit Cover-Abbildungen der ersten 2 Ausgaben):

Newsarama führt ein ausführliches Interview mit DCs Dan Didio & Jim Lee bezüglich
des WIE und WARUM von Supermans neuem Status Quo! Ein Auszug:

"He's had so much learning and understanding from the days with his parents, but the rest of the discovery is on his own," DiDio said, confirming the Clark will have been guided as a youth by the Kents, before their death. "If we had him married to Lois right now, he would always have a strong base to work from. We wanted to explore much bigger and wider stories with him. It's really the learning and growing of this character that is going to be the basis for so much of what Grant and George are going to be doing with their series and with Superman...

...Part of Superman's introduction to the DCU will also be told in Justice League, the new comic that Lee is drawing for writer Geoff Johns. In the comic, which also takes place five years in the past (like Action Comics), the Justice League team members will come together for the first time. This new Superman will be among those heroes that discover each other in Justice League during the "dawning of the age of superheroes."

"It's really about re-introducing the concept of superheroes in the DC Universe, and doing it in a more contemporary, timely way," Lee said. "We wanted a situation in Action and in Justice League where we show the first public emergence of these so-called super-beings and how they impact society, politics, the world."

Außerdem hat DC für Dezember die Veröffentlichung eines 1216 Seiten -!- starken Deluxe- Hardcover- Buches angekündigt, in dem für $ 150 die Erstausgaben ALLER 52 Neustart-Titel komplett nachgedruckt werden. Dieser HC könnte sich für "DC-Nerds" zur neuen "Bibel" entwickeln, ähnlich wie die "Crisis On Infinite Earths" -Hardcover und Absolute Editions vor einigen Jahren...

Die Abbildung oben links zeigt eine Splashpage aus JUSTICE LEAGUE # 1 (klasse Dialoge von Geoff Johns: Hal ist naiv wie ein Schuljunge... und Bruce weiß wie üblich alles besser - als hätte der DC-Reboot nie stattgefunden...!). Die Seite zierte einen ausführlichen Artikel über DCs Pläne im aktuellen "Entertainment Weekly" (erhältlich im gut sortierten Internationalen Presseshop). Die Abb. oben rechts ist der Cover-Entwurf für JL # 2 (Oktober 2011), in dem Batman "erstmals" in dieser neuen Continuity auf Superman trifft ("'mal 'was ganz neues...").

Inzwischen wurde bekannt, das DC seine Neustart-Titel nicht nur im US-Fernsehen mit Spots bewerben wird, sondern auch vier Wochen lang in den US- Kinos; aus dem offziellen Pressetext:

“DC Entertainment is proud to announce a partnership with National CineMedia (NCM) for a movie theatre advertising campaign to promote DC COMICS – THE NEW 52! Advertising this unprecedented event at the movies alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest films will make it easy and affordable for retailers to reach a mass audience of readers and generate unparalleled buzz and sales...

Der 30-sekündige Spot wird so gestaltet, das Comic-Shops die Möglichkeit erhalten in den Kinos ihrer Heimat-Stadt per Einblendung mit Adresse genannt zu werden .

Ebenso werden alle im 4. Quartal neuerscheinenden DVD- und BluRay- Titel von Warner Home Entertainment Werbeflyer von DC COMICS THE NEW 52 enthalten.

BIRD? PLANE? SUPERDUDE!

Die "NEW YORK POST" veröffentlicht einen Beitrag zum geplanten Neustart des traditionsreichen und ältesten Super-Helden- Comic überhaupt: ACTION COMICS, das ab September vom Creative-Team GRANT MORRISON & RAGS MORALES betreut wird.

Die Abb. unten links zeigt einen der beiden Variant-Cover, die es vom ersten Heft geben wird.

Grant Morrison über seine Superman-Stories, die in ACTION COMICS in der Vergangenheit spielen werden: "Dies sind die Abenteuer eines jungen Superman, der noch daran glaubt, das eine bessere Welt für jedermann möglich ist... Seine Optik repräsentiert seinen Status als Street-Level Verteidiger der Bürger."

Lt. Morrison wird "sein" junger Superman viele Elemente des klassischen "Golden Age" Superman der 30er- & 40er- Jahre enthalten.

Optisch und inhaltlich erinnert mich die gesamte Konzeption aber auch an die Darstellung von Clarks Werdegang vom 15jährigen Schüler zum 25jährigen Daily Planet Reporter und "Superman" in den 10 Staffeln der SMALLVILLE Serie. Auch dort erlebte Clark seine ersten Abenteuer noch (inkognito) in T-Shirt, Jeans und Boots, wechselte später mehrere Male zu "Proto-" Superman-Kostümen (als"The Blur", ganz in schwarz mit weißem "S" auf der Brust oder auch in roter Lederjacke), bevor er dann (endlich) im gewohnt rot-blauen Kampf-Dress auftritt.
